Our Opportunity

Job Title: Group Account Director

Role Summary: As a core member of the leadership team, this Group Account Director role is responsible for directing and supervising public affairs initiatives, with a strong focus on driving new business opportunities. This role reports to the executive leadership team and manages a team responsible for planning and executing campaigns around public affairs, community engagement, and new business and client development.

Essential Duties:

  • In collaboration with executive leadership, oversee and lead the agency’s overall public affairs efforts, including statewide work and cultivating relationships in Austin.
  • Work with the executive leadership to oversee management of assigned accounts, including proactive engagement in client account strategy, ensuring strategic alignment with business objectives and identifying key growth opportunities on an ongoing basis.
  • Expand scope of existing client work by identifying and aggressively pursuing organic growth opportunities.
  • Help identify and deliver innovative ideas to clients, including new ways to engage with audiences via all appropriate channels, supporting a client’s brand strategy, engaging its clients and prospects, and increasing awareness.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of key industry trends and changes, including digital/social media and its various tools, and strategically integrate these tools into ongoing communications efforts as appropriate.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of public affairs plans, emphasizing community relations and stakeholder engagement.
  • Aggressively manage budgets through weekly and monthly reviews, ensuring profitability and client satisfaction.
  • Report status and progress of client and new business efforts to clients and executive leadership regularly.
  • Foster strong working relationships with key stakeholders in relevant industries or sectors.
  • Develop community relations awareness by staying informed on current news, liaising with public officials, chambers of commerce, and attending community events.
  • Work with executive leadership to manage/oversee overall new business pursuits, including monitoring and identifying opportunities, responding to RFPs, maintaining/updating assets including case studies, content/presentation creation and other key new business efforts.
  • Serve as part of the Group Account Director leadership team, responsible for leading, mentoring and growing teams with the agency.
  • Lead or support crisis communications efforts as needed.
  • Work with and manage integrated internal teams specializing in creative development, production, media planning and buying, and other specialties to develop and execute strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • 8-10 years of related experience in strategic communications, public affairs, government relations or government agencies. Agency experience a plus.
  • Strong, established relationships at the state level and ability to spend time in Austin to cultivate those relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including proficiency in AP writing style.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information for strategic planning.
  • Proficient in budget management and financial analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must work well under changing and multiple deadlines. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Strong knowledge of business development, public affairs strategy and crisis communication.
  • Ability to attend/travel community engagement meetings and interact with public officials and members of the community.
  • Ability to staff client events and community meetings on evenings and/or weekends as appropriate.
  • Class C driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities a plus.
  • Agency experience a plus.
  • Experience working with government entities in Austin and the broader Gulf Coast region a plus.
